I am here to tell the ongoing story of a gringo that married a Cuban woman. I know there are more out there that took the same steps as I did and I would like to relay my story. In the beginning I had made the unfortunate mistake of getting married due to a pregnancy of my former wife (not Cuban) and the pressures of of how I was brought up. During the divorce I came into visual contact of a beautiful young latin lady that had a very infectious smile. I instantly knew that she was different than anyone that I had met. What I did not know was the challenges that she and I were going to face. At that time I did not speak any Spanish at all and she spoke very little English. At times I wish it was still the same way as we did not understand each other very well. :) The challenges of dating was there but she stayed with me during my grueling process of divorce. What I learned was that there was a solid family element with her family and this was to a degree that I never had seen or felt before. Our first challenge was the language barriers that we had to overcome. On our first date she had to tell the waitress several times what she wanted to drink. After I could overcome my laughter I assisted so there was no more suffering by this young lady and the waitress. You see, the young lady (who later became my wife) was trying to order a sI oda. Pepsi to be specific. However, when she asked for the soda she was stating Pecksi, which confused the waitress.
As I said before, there are more people that have made the same commitment as I did. I am going to add on more experiences as time goes in hopes that my solutions and humor may assist others that are still in the confused state and shock.
